Top Buy Low-Sell High Candidates Before Week 3 for 2024 Fantasy Football

After an insane slate of games over the second week of the 2024 NFL season, we have a lot to discuss and break down in terms of fantasy football fallout. Week 2 is almost as panic-inducing as Week 1. Early opinions of players are either reinforced or totally thrown out of the window, leaving fantasy managers with two possible avenues of premature overreaction. They are either extremely excited and have no doubt that they will be walking home with their league championship or have already begun firing up the mock draft simulators in hopes of a better 2025 fantasy football season.

However, if you’ve played even one season of fantasy football, you know that you always have more time to turn things around for your team than you think. The aftermath of Week 2 is not a time for fear; rather, it is a time for action. Obviously, not every team needs to make a trade after just two weeks; after all, it’s important to give your players time so that you can avoid trading away a potential league-winner. Unfortunately, some teams have obvious holes in their lineups, and if that’s you, this article may be helpful.

Buy Low

Jayden Reed - WR, GB

Week 2 Stats - 2 Targets, 2 Rec, 9 Rec Yards, 2 Carries, 37 Rush Yards

Reports have indicated that Packers quarterback Jordan Love may return sooner rather than later, which means the window of time to trade for Reed may be closing quickly. Reed had a relatively poor week in fantasy football, which was entirely expected. Green Bay didn’t want to throw the ball, so running back Josh Jacobs was given 32 carries that he converted into 151 rushing yards. The game plan was simple and executed to perfection against a poor Indianapolis run defense.

There’s no reason to believe Reed’s stat line will improve drastically while Love recovers from the MCL sprain he suffered in Week 1, so this will likely be the cheapest Reed will ever be to acquire by trade this season.

Jayden Reed’s fantasy owners were already coming into the season worrying about who Jordan Love’s top target would be. If the fantasy manager in your league with Jayden Reed has fallen into a bit of a hole early in the season, shoot them a trade offer for Reed, who will suffer from a run-heavy game plan until his quarterback returns. It’s easy to forget an elite performance after a disappointing one, so take advantage of the overreaction and try to trade for Reed while you still can.

Xavier Worthy - WR, KC

Week 2 Stats - 4 Targets, 2 Rec, 17 Rec Yards, 1 Carry, 5 Rush Yards

Chiefs rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy has had a rollercoaster of a rookie campaign so far. He started off with a multi-touchdown debut against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 1, leading many fantasy managers to believe they had just drafted the top target in the Mahomes-led Chiefs passing offense. Unfortunately, Worthy followed this impressive performance with two catches for only 17 yards in Week 2 versus the Cincinnati Bengals. Worthy’s trade value has dropped from an all-time high to a significant low.

Here’s why you should buy in right now. Chiefs wide receiver Hollywood Brown’s shoulder injury is expected to keep him sidelined for the remainder of the regular season. The Chiefs hope to have him back on the field for a playoff run, but that’s beside the point. We know two things about Xavier Worthy heading into Week 3. First, he is just as explosive as he was in college, and the Chiefs will take advantage of this in creative ways. Second, his only competition for targets is wide receiver Rashee Rice and tight end Travis Kelce, the latter of whom has been rather quiet through two weeks.

On an offense that just lost its top running back for multiple weeks, Worthy could start to carve out more of a consistent role sooner than expected. He’s a home-run threat who will deliver for your fantasy team if given the chance. His price will likely be fairly low in most leagues because of the weekly boom-or-bust guessing game he presents to fantasy managers.

With Hollywood Brown and Isiah Pacheco both being placed on injured reserve, Worthy is bound to receive more touches now that the offense will be forced to pass the ball on a more consistent basis, eliminating some of the guesswork that comes with having him on your roster.

Garrett Wilson - WR, NYJ

Week 2 Stats - 6 Targets, 4 Rec, 57 Rec Yards, 1 Carry, 5 Rush Yards

After Week 2, it seems like Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson may be one of the only consistent fantasy options in New York’s passing game. Wilson has a solid 17 targets through two weeks and has obvious chemistry with quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Wilson hasn’t exactly performed up to the standards that came with his ADP so far, but as New York’s offense starts to figure things out in Rodgers’ first full year as their starter, expect Wilson to continue his role as the team’s top weapon in the passing game and to see an increase in volume as the season goes on. After all, the Ohio State product has strung together two straight 1,000+ receiving-yard seasons with very poor quarterback play in the Big Apple.

Wilson’s fantasy managers may start to become restless because he hasn’t put together a superstar-caliber game this early into the season. If you’re rostering him, it’s still way too early to trade him after two solid weeks, even if you might be worried he may not be the elite wideout you thought you drafted for your fantasy team. If you’re in a position to trade for Wilson, depending on the offer, you should pull the trigger. He has already put up some decent performances, and his volume will only get better as Rodgers becomes more comfortable

Sell High

Calvin Ridley - WR, TEN

Week 2 Stats - 6 Targets, 4 Rec, 77 Rec Yards, 1 Carry, 10 Rush Yards, 2 Total TDs

Calvin Ridley had a great week against the New York Jets. Ridley logged two total scores while reeling in four passes in Week 2. This issue is, these big plays may not be sustainable. Titans quarterback Will Levis has been a turnover machine (three interceptions, two fumbles) through the first two weeks of the season and wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, who had a strong connection with Levis in 2023, still doesn’t seem to be at full strength yet after suffering an MCL tear in the offseason.

As far as Ridley’s production, he’s been great as a big-play threat so far, posting a ridiculous 22.8 air yards per target, but only seven receptions and 13 targets through two weeks doesn’t translate to a lot of volume in fantasy football. Inconsistency could be on the way for Ridley’s fantasy owners; pair that with a solid running game led by running back Tony Pollard and an offense with a lot of turnovers on passing downs, and you may see a higher amount of rush attempts for this offense moving forward. After a strong week, look to trade Calvin Ridley for a safer option at the wide receiver position.

Devin Singletary - RB, NYG

Week 2 Stats - 16 carries, 95 rush yards, 1 rush TD

The rationale for this entry is simple. I don’t trust the Giants to move the ball down the field as a team enough to be optimistic about Devin Singletary’s fantasy outlook. This is less of a reflection on Singletary than a stark outlook of the offense around him. Referencing advanced statistics, Singletary only has a rush success percentage of 30.8%. He also has a rush EPA of -5.6 through two weeks. Not great.

Realistically, it will be hard for the Giants to have consistent offensive success with quarterback Daniel Jones under center. As good as Singletary can be, his ceiling will always be hampered by the team around him. Additionally, the Giants game script will most likely be centered around a come-from-behind passing attack headlined by Malik Nabers. Any way you look at it, this may end up being Singletary’s best performance this year. Think about cashing out while you still can.

Chuba Hubbard - RB, CAR

Week 2 Stats - 10 Carries, 64 Rush Yards, 5 Targets, 4 Rec, 12 Rec Yards

The end of the road with Panthers running back Chuba Hubbard is growing near, and if he’s on your roster, this double-digit fantasy performance (in PPR) might just be the perfect opportunity to trade him for a bit of value before rookie running back Jonathon Brooks makes his career debut in a few weeks. We don’t exactly know when the rookie will return from the PUP list after tearing his ACL during the final year of his collegiate career at Texas, but it can be assumed that the first running back taken in the 2024 NFL Draft will be Carolina’s top option in the backfield once he returns.

It’s reasonable to expect that Hubbard’s role will dramatically decrease when Brooks returns, so trading Hubbard right after what could be one of his best games of the season may be the best option for your fantasy team. Hubbard will still be rosterable until Brooks returns, but there’s a dead end approaching his fantasy outlook that you still have time to avoid.
