Who is Kylian Mbappe?

If you don't know by now, Kylian Mbappe and the Spanish soccer club Real Madrid have been in a love-hate relationship for the past couple of years. Mbappe is regarded by many as the best player in the world, and the French superstar still has many years left in his career. 

He currently is the top scorer of the French League (Ligue 1) with 19 goals, ten more than second place, and finished second in the world with the most goals scored in 2023 (52). On top of this, he is the French National team's leading goal scorer, even leading them to a World Cup trophy in 2018, and the leading goalscorer of his current team, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

 

 

What Does This Have to Do with Real Madrid?

To start, Kylian Mbappe was a Real Madrid fan growing up; more specifically, he was obsessed with Cristiano Ronaldo. He would express his dream to play for Real Madrid, even meeting with some of the players. It looked like Mbappe wanted to play for Madrid, or so we all thought.

Over the past couple of years, there have been many opportunities for Mbappe to join Real Madrid. Real Madrid has offered PSG hundreds of millions of dollars to try to buy Mbappe, but every time, PSG has declined the offer. When Mbappe seems close to becoming a free agent, he always ends up signing an extension for PSG, leaving Real Madrid frustrated once again. 

One example of this is Mbappe's current contract, which he signed in May 2022. Many months before his extension, many people were sure he was going to sign for Madrid. Mbappe never made it clear what he was going to do until he signed his extension, which crushed Mbappe's dream of going to Madrid yet again.

To keep Mbappe at PSG, PSG had to offer him one of the biggest contracts in sports history. Mbappe will earn over 690 million dollars for his three-year contract, and he has more control over the club with the contract.

 

 

Why Does Madrid Keep Pursuing Mbappe?

As mentioned earlier, Mbappe is widely regarded as the best player in the world, so any club that can afford him would want to have him on their team. Even though Mbappe has sort of delayed joining Madrid, Madrid knows about how they were once his dream club and that Mbappe would still join their club given the right circumstances. 

Mbappe would transform Real Madrid's attack into the best in the world. A mix of Vinicius, Mbappe, Jude Bellingham, and Rodrigo would be an unstoppable force. Defenses across Europe would fear this attack for years.

 

 

Finally, Real Madrid is known for signing the biggest stars in the world. Mbappe is the perfect player for Madrid, a superstar. A signing like him will make them money on and off the field. 

Why I Think This Deal Is Now or Never

Mbappe's current deal expires this summer, and a player can agree to a deal with a new team when there are only six months left in their contract. This is important because, starting in January, Mbappe can officially join Real Madrid.

Most likely, he won't in January because he tends to wait to make his decisions, so his official decision will probably be in the summer. This summer will be the end of this transfer saga, no matter what happens.

 

 

If Mbappe decides to join Real Madrid, he will create one of the strongest teams in the world and will have the best chance of fulfilling his dreams for the Champions League and Ballon d'Or. If he chooses to extend his stay at PSG, I believe Real Madrid will pull out of the race for Mbappe once and for all, and Mbappe's legacy won't be as good as it could've been. 

Of course, there is a possibility of Mbappe joining another team that is not Real Madrid, but that is very low. For now, only Mbappe knows what he wants, and what he chooses can determine how impressive people view his career after he retires.
